Krysta's Korner I have created Krysta's Korner, my own little personal corner of this website, for those of you who would like to know a bit more about me. Krysta McKee Denzer.
My Yahoo avatar ------------------------------------------------------ May 31, 2011 So I'm working at a summer camp, and I just moved in to my cabin yesterday (thank you, wonderful family who has helped me). This is the list of items that are missing (I packed them, but they're not here) or that were forgotten (oh yeah, I meant to bring that, too!): Jeans (my dark dressy ones, in case I want to go out) Febreeze (I'm really starting to miss it, already!) Bug spray (I can't believe I haven't already been bitten yet) Belt (my pants are fitting looser than I thought they would) Eye drops (the box of thick ones I like to use each night) Lemon Pepper (peppery seasoning that always helps a sinus headache) May 13 Besides stormwatching, what else have I done in the last few days? Well, I spent three days at Camp Baldwin with our last overnight school group (who came for the Estuary Life program). These students, their teachers, and parents were from Pleasant Grove, AL, an area ravished by the recent tornadoes. Here's what I did: Day 1: Taught watershed wonders class with Ms. Pat Saw red-headed woodpecker Went sailing on the Cyrus King Swept the cafeteria after mealtimes Night Mysteries (a night hike--no flashlights allowed--with echo-location game and candy game--"lightning" in your mouth as sparks are created when you chew the hard candy) Day 2: Discovered spring (Mr. David and Ms. Pat took me and Bree to see where the water bubbles up out of the ground) Swept the classroom Found crushed snails (something bit and cracked them) Saw osprey (large estuary bird) Got wet canoeing--sort of (I was just helping to bring them back onto the beach) Hung out with Checkers (the camp's very sweet albino corn snake, probably a little over a foot long) Awesome campfire The Stick Dance (an observation game--you have to repeat the dance that the first person did, including the secret move--a small move that most people won't even notice, like touching your ear or folding your hands afterwards) The Moose (an awesome campfire song, see above right) Spent the night on the sailboat!! (all of us girls slept up on top, crowded together underneath the stars) Day 3: Woken up at 5:50 a.m. by Ms. Angela Noisy birds were singing long before sunrise (including the whippoorwill, which sang all night and that I first thought was some sort of car alarm) Experienced a beautiful dawn (with the clouds reflected in the still water) Held Lucy (Rusty's cute toddler daughter, who visited us during breakfast and really likes toy horses.) Cleaned cabins Canoed around the point with Ms. Pat Waved goodbye to the kids (we were sad to see them leave) --------------------------- The same "Civil War" scene, this time shot with a modern digital point-and shoot. (right) -----> A lady re-enactress at the Battle of Selma. ----------------- Renaissance Faire (below) A couple of attached gourds read "Feed the Plant"--a creative way of asking for money. -------------------------------------------- ![]() ![]() Spring Break 2010 My family enjoyed a trip to North Carolina the week before Easter (2010). I was able to see, play in, and even get stuck in snow! I sank in to well above my knees. ![]() -- - -- | ![]() My Hobbies: Drama, Photography, Reading, Writing, Hiking, Stormwatching, Gardening, Scrapbooking ------------------------------------------------------------- May 13, 2011 If I were to try not to, my efforts would be hopeless. I cannot help but give praise to God. I just got in from doing one of my favorite new hobbies--"stormwatching". I am aware of the danger, and I wouldn't complain if you called me crazy, but I just love standing outside watching during a storm. There is nothing else like the feeling of fresh rain falling on your face, nothing physical that reminds me so much of God's majesty as the great lightning that strikes from cloud to cloud, sometimes reaching to the earth below. Once I stood in a rainy cathedral surrounded by lightning on all sides. It was a breathtaking demonstration of God's power and a vivid reminder of how small I am. The thunder, meanwhile, gives us a glimpse of a fragment of the voice of God. Can you even imagine how great must be the voice of our God? I stood outside today, running and dancing in the rain, praising my God. Surely there is nothing better. ------------------------------------- "The Moose" This is an awesome campfire song. After each line that the leader sings, the audience repeats it (singing it back to the leader). Please note that this is the shortened form of the Moose song. There are also motions to this song, but it's too complicated to explain them here. Just make them up according to the words. The Moose, the Moose. Swimming in the water. Eating her supper. Where did she go? She went to sleep. -- Dead Moose, dead Moose. Floating in the water. Not eating her supper. Where did she go? She decomposed. It's a weird song, but the thrill is in the participation. ------------ May 1, 2011 A great time at the Battle of Selma Re-enactment. A Civil War era photo of my grandmother and I, taken with a sliding box camera that was made in France during the 1850s. --------------------------------- March 10, 2011 Graduation is approaching, I'm diving into my Outdoor Family internship at Camp Baldwin, and I'm trying to squeeze in all the rest of my schoolwork before graduation day! Yikes! The MacDonald Family Singers - A great singing and instrumental group to have at your church or other venue.
----------------------------------------- November 15, 2010 Mobile Renaissance Faire Wow! The Renaissance Faire was great again this year. I have to admit that my favorite part this year was actually just two little 4-year-old girls that started talking to us (they were adorable, and so cute!), but there were lots of other really amazing things. The Babin family, who participated in the Shrimp Fest, was there doing face-painting and with one girl walking on stilts (babinparty.com). We also saw a giant walking "tree". The "face" of the tree. The person must have been walking on stilts. June 7th, 2010 Wow! God is so good to all of us. I can only thank Him for His love, mercy--for His forgiveness. Who would have thought that He could take something like me and actually work with it, much less start making something good out of it! But praise Him for His mercy, grace, and determination! And God bless all nations of the world--especially His people and those that do His will. March 7th, 2010 Gosh, I've been so busy I hardly know what to do! But God gives me strength to press on, and I've got some good stuff for History and Bible that should be ready soon. November 16, 2009 Wow! I had a fantastic time Saturday at the Renaissance Faire. I even got to bring along a couple of great friends! Here's our photo, taken just outside the Faire:
November 13, 2009 "The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." -- Job 1:21. This week has been a week of giving, taking, and then giving again! First I was finally able to see the little lizards that I haven't been able to find in months (I watched one cute little juvenile for at least half an hour while it sat sunbathing about four inches from my face, and it was such a beautiful little creature!!). Then I got the money that I had been hoping for (but had thought I would never get). After that it was the butterfly that had died in my hands (which I had dropped outside my grandmother's house) and my hairbrush that was missing for three weeks! But then I found out that several exciting things for this weekend had been canceled (quite saddening). And now it appears that I will still at least be going to the Renaissance Fair tomorrow, so that counts as a small blessing. Anyway, gotta go. God bless! October 20, 2009 Hallelujah! Finally, some cooler weather down here in Lower Alabama! It's exceedingly wonderful!!! (Thank You, Lord, for this wonderful cooler weather!!!)
