The Perfect Day
--
Today {Saturday, June 25} I experienced the perfect summer day for a girl like me. An easy morning at home in a comfy bed. No rush to get out the door. A taco, nachos, and queso [cheese dip] at noon, complete with a fizzy iced soda and fabulous company. Then the afternoon spent meandering through downtown Fairhope, stopping in lovely little knick-knack shops and antique stores, marveling at free-trade instruments from across the world carved into the shapes of frogs, and trying on and coming home with a few lovely items from second-hand boutiques. Resting at a picnic table in the shade. And all of it done with two people I love, with a great step-father and a wonderful grandmother. Helping an injured bird [a brown thrasher, to be exact] that we think was attacked by the cat. Then relaxing with a good magazine before dipping my feet in the fountain at the Fairhope pier and snapping a few shots of the American flag. Getting my hands on a zoom lens for the first time ever, even if with a very outdated film camera. Visiting the cousins that I hardly ever see anymore, joining them for an evening cookout, getting hugs from the cousin who is more of a little sister. Ending the day with a small chocolate shake while reading design magazines and dreaming about my future home. Anything else that I could have added to make the day even better? Canoeing down a stream or along the bay, or perhaps going sailing with Rusty on the Cyrus King. All in all, the perfect day. It felt like summer to me.
