I See the Light
Okay, so I really like Disney's new movie Tangled. If you haven't seen it, it's just a really happy movie about a girl who, for the first time in her life, gets to see and discover so many new things. Because she has never experienced them before, everything seems amazing to her. She is filled with wonder at it all. James 1:17 tells us that "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights." Think about it. When was the last time that you received a gift that you really loved? Did it make you feel happy, excited, loved? Just the experience can be amazing, and every one of those good gifts comes from God. Shouldn't we thank Him? And how many smaller or more ordinary gifts does He give us each and every day that we simply ignore, that we don't even notice?
There is a part in the movie Tangled where Rapunzel gets to see the floating lights in person, for the first time ever, and she and Flynn sing a song called "I See the Light". I have created my own spiritual rewording of this song. Below it is a video of the original.
James 1:17-18
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures."
My Rewording:
(A Song To Jesus)
All those days chasing down a daydream.
All those years living in a blur.
All that time, never truly seeing
Things, the way they were.
Now I'm here, blinking in the Sonlight
Now I'm here, suddenly I see
When You're here, it's crystal clear,
I'm where I'm meant to go.
And at last I see the light,
and it's like the fog has lifted.
And at last I see the light,
and it's like the sky is new.
And it's warm and real and bright,
and the world has somehow shifted.
All at once, everything is different
Now that I see truth.
All at once, everything looks different,
Now that I see You.
Note: I claim no copyright for this rewording or for the original song from Disney's animated film Tangled.
By the way, I found it quite ironic that James 1:17 refers to God as the Father of lights, even as Rapunzel experiences wonder at the floating lights in the movie.
